When the mind represses aspects of our personality to protect us it creates what Kissing Consciousness calls the ‘Unconscious’. It’s also called ‘The Shadow’, a term of Carl Jung’s, or our ‘Shadow Baggage’.
Given that we’ve all come into a world which has a taboo around sex, and has yet to stabilise a level of wisdom in humanity – leading to violence and economic stupidity among other things – it’s not surprising that most everybody is carrying a fair amount of Unconscious self-limitation Shadow Baggage. Denying us parts of our personalities and greatness might not seem like a good idea, but if the consequences of not doing so were potentially worse, maybe it does make sense.
