How to Stop Your Mind Racing

“Can somebody please turn off this ‘tape recording’ in my head?!”

It’s a very common complaint. People would like the ‘drip, drip’ of their minds to leave them alone.

The brain isn’t designed to stop, or to not have thoughts. Even when you sleep it’s working. It’s therefore important to realise that the problem is not the thoughts themselves, but resistance to the thoughts – the Unwillingness to have them. It’s the resistance to the thoughts that gives them that quality of seeming to pester us and beat us up like Chinese water torture.

Resistance is a quality of self-judgement, which means it can be released. Change the quality of your relationship to your thoughts and you change your experience of your thoughts. That doesn’t mean they’ll cease without you Receiving the message about your truth that they’re trying to give you.
