Changing The Clocks

It’s not just about sleep, it’s also about rhythm. You may have heard the term ‘Circadian Rhythm’, which refers to our biological processes, and in this regard we might appreciate the fact that we evolved on a 24-hour planet. It’s all very well for the clocks to be put back or forward an hour, but can your body’s rhythm be moved around quite so easily?

Dr Stanley informed me that if a person wishes to shift their sleep-wake cycle, for example if we’re regularly waking at eight and we wish to regularly wake at seven, it takes at least a week to comfortably shift it by an hour. Yet we are expected to do this overnight when the clocks change twice a year. How many of us can truly say we’ve gotten into a rhythm with our bodies? Very few.

It’s no wonder that society’s health is struggling if every time the body has a chance to get into its natural rhythm, it is knocked off kilter again every six months.

The European Parliament has finally seen sense and taken steps to end clock changing in 2021. It only took them 20 years to catch up with my rather basic and straightforward Awareness. The UK Conservative government, disappointingly, has indicated it will keep changing the clocks, assuming a Brexit happens.
